Our neighbourhood
The neighbourhood
of San Siro
We are just a few hundred metres from the harbour and beaches, but the atmosphere here is completely different
An authentic neighbourhood
Everyone knows each other here, shops close to home, buys focaccia from friends, enjoys a large neighbourhood market and says hello in the street
The focaccia bakery
Just after leaving Piazza San Siro, try the bakery at 141 Corso Matteotti: focaccia and savoury pies for a delicious break.
Santa Margherita’s other bakeries and focaccia shops are worth trying too: choose whichever catches your eye as you walk.
The Friday market
Every Friday morning, from the square in front of San Siro church along the service road beside Corso Matteotti. Around the square, browse stalls selling cheese, fruit, vegetables and prepared food; along the road, clothing and household items. If you are heading to the seafront, walk through it: it is worth a stop.
If you park on Thursday evening, check the signs: parking may be prohibited in the market areas and your car may be towed away.
The trattoria
Trattoria San Siro, Corso Matteotti 137. Dogs welcome (pet-friendly).

The Coop supermarket
Coop San Siro, Via Delpino Teramo 45: about 100 m from Via Privata Pastine 7. Parking includes spaces reserved for customers and free public spaces.
This is the supermarket for your groceries and a taste of Liguria: deli food, focaccia and local products; look out for pesto and fresh pasta such as trofie or pansotti too.
Neighbourhood shops
In Piazza San Siro you will find the pharmacy, cafés for breakfast overlooking the little gardens, and a pleasant place to pause with children.
Right opposite Piazza San Siro, at the start of Corso Matteotti (139/B), look for the little old-fashioned hardware shop: when books are on display, you can take them free of charge or exchange them, including books in other languages. As you continue towards the sea, the shops keep coming: fruit and vegetables, small independent shops and places for an aperitivo.
The San Siro festival
Usually on the second weekend in July, the neighbourhood celebrates its patron saint: a lively square, specialities to taste, music and, when scheduled, traditional fireworks. A lovely opportunity to experience San Siro alongside the people who live here.
Dates vary: check the programme on the town council’s website.
Here you will be more than tourists: you will become friends of the neighbourhood
