Beaches and the sea

A quick swim or a whole day?

In Santa Margherita the beaches follow the seafront, give way to gardens and the harbour, then appear again along the road to Portofino. We have chosen a few different ones: the best depends on how long you want to stay and the kind of day you have in mind.

Ghiaia

Close to the town centre

One of the most convenient choices for a swim without going far. Along the pebble beach, free public sections alternate with beach clubs; it is popular with families too.

Before entering the water, check the town council’s water quality updates and the notices displayed on the beach.

Helios

Seawater swimming pools

On the stretch of seafront towards Rapallo, Hotel Helios’s beach club is an option for those wanting sun loungers and facilities. Its distinctive feature is its two pools supplied with seawater. It is also open to visitors who are not staying at the hotel; check availability and prices before going.

Minaglia

An unhurried day

Beyond the harbour, towards Portofino, you will find Minaglia beach. It is a public beach with facilities: you can choose to stay in the free section or use the services available. A good idea if you want to spend a few more hours by the sea.

Punta Pedale

A cove with facilities

Continuing towards Paraggi, after Covo di Nord-Est, you reach Punta Pedale. It is a beach club in a pebble cove, with sun loungers, parasols, a bar and a restaurant. We like its location and the chance to spend the whole day here.

Paraggi

The colour of the sea

Further on, Paraggi Bay awaits, framed by greenery and famous for its emerald shades of water. Much of the beach is occupied by beach clubs, but there is also a small free public section in the middle.
